Coach Martin's Letter (published in Powell Valley News)

Coach Terry Martin
Dear Editor,
I would like to recognize the young men who were part of the Pennington Middle varsity football team for their accomplishments this year.  The team finished with a 10-1 record, rushed for over 2,300 yards, scored 376 points, allowed only 28 points, had 8 shutouts, blocked 5 punts, recovered 11 fumbles, and had 10 interceptions.  I thank these young men for their hard work and dedication, and their parents for their support, and for giving me the opportunity to coach these fine young men.  It was my pleasure to coach them.

I also would like to express my appreciation to the many individuals who have supported our program this year.  First, I want to thank my assistant coaches, Donnie Williams, Mike Garrett, and Gary Buchanan, who volunteered their time to work with the team.  They are all excellent coaches, and are a great asset to our program.  Lee Brewer also is a big help to me, our team, and Pennington Middle.  I also want to thank Pennington Middle JV team Coach, Willie Gilliam, and assistants, Mike Alsup and Shannon Fritts, for a job well done, and businesses, Subway, Hardees, and Shirt Shack for their donations.

I greatly appreciate Pennington Middle teachers, support staff, and athletic director, Deborah McCoy, for their help and support, and cheer coaches, Lena McCall and Kellie Leonard, who coordinated team meals.  Finally, I would like to thank principal, Michelle Warner, for her cooperation and support.

I look forward to seeing the eighth graders, from both Pennington and Jonesville, transition to Lee High.  I would like to challenge them to work hard for Coach Palko and his staff as they continue building a successful football program.   The future looks bright for Lee High Football!  Go Big Red!
